Garridan Nelson (GN13)

Figured Maple Top
Walnut, Paduak, Yellow Heart Box
Interior of Lid Says:
“Gra Anois Agus Go Deo”
(Gaelic, meaning: Love, Now & Forever)

One of two boxes crafted for Brigadoon Service Dogs to auction as a means of supporting their program. This nonprofit organization trains service dogs for Veterans in need, and the dogs are trained by incarcerated Veterans in Washington State.

Previous boxes were often adorned with military, university, or sports imagery. However, these two boxes were to honor Brigadoon’s history and purpose. Named for the mythical Scottish city, Brigadoon, and tied to the Celtic heritage so tightly they’ve incorporated a Scottish tartan in their logo, Garridan wanted to use Celtic imagery. Knotwork is his ‘go-to’ in this regard, and a dogs unconditional love (heart in knotwork) is endless, an element of the purpose of Brigadoon – dogs. The Gaelic inscription inside the lid reads, “Love, Now and Forever”.

This piece is crafted from walnut, yellow heart, and paduak, with a figured maple top. It’s lined with crushed velvet.
